“Kinetic Conversations” – a beautiful dialogue!

I must say – after the incredible process of participating in a heartfelt tribute to my great friend, colleague and mentor Jo Dierdorff, it is wonderful to hear student feedback, both from the performers and audience members.  “Kinetic Conversations” is always a fun concert – seeing the work of the faculty and guest artists is a treat and definitely inspires me.  But this year – it has gone to an amped up level of meaning and emotion, followed by a bigger let down than usual.  Almost anyone who has been in a show or dance concert knows what I mean – after the high of performance, the inevitable downer moment happens when you realize, “Hey – I don’t have rehearsal any more.” Big sad face…

On the happier side, the first set of auditions for “Celebrate Dance” was held today, and things are looking very promising for this year’s student concert.  Great turnout (and I’m not talking about outward rotation folks, although that does apply!) I’m looking forward to Wednesday’s audition at 6:00pm in the Dance Studio.

I would love to hear from students regarding their impressions of the concert as a whole, especially if you have NEVER attended a dance concert.

  1. Hey Rita! I’m glad I had you as my Dance 6 professor, you taught me much about dance and I see dance in a new perspective. Thank you. (^_^)

      • Where to begin; Kinetic Conversations as a whole was an amazing event. New perspective would have to be “Soul Soldier”, the choice of song which was Charlie Chaplin’s speech was great. Putting movement and speech together is very powerful. Stage space and lighting is also a new perspective for me. I thought it was going to be plain but lighting creates a different atmosphere and stage space was wonderfully used.

  2. Hello Mrs Chenoweth

  3. Hey Rita, Kinetic Conversations concert was my first concert and probably wont be my last, but “cuppa joe” was exciting to watch knowing that i know the choreographer. I see dance at a much more different perspective. Thank you Rita!

  4. Kinetic Conversation took me by surprise. I was expecting to only see the balllet style of dancing, but Rita of course threw in something that caught my eye and continue to have a smile on my face. I had the chance to bring my mother and now she wants to go every event that Rcc is having. Thanks for showing me the light!

  5. after experiencing this event and paying close attention to comments i heard around me, i can say that for a fact this concert was a success, your so called “Hell Week” absolutely paid off because it was plain to see that extreme detail was used when structuring this piece. i had a great time and enjoyed the show from begginning to end. i advise future students to not miss the kinetic conversations concert, it is an experience you simply cant miss out on.
